Parrot Nursery in Crisis
Ongoing Habitual Poor Sanitary Standards in Nursery COINCIDING with sick and dying baby parrots
While every staff member was supposed to clean any messes they create in the Nursery to prevent any babies from getting sick (signs are on the walls to this effect), the staff observed that Susanne systematically left the nursery in unsanitary condition, left baby feeding instruments and supplies with formula all over them on the nursery feeding table, and in the nursery bathroom strainer when she was the only one there to feed them and oversee the condition of the nursery.
Staff also observed that incoming babies from Susanne's home or the breeders she purchased them from were sick or became sick while in her care. Susanne was aware of this issue per staff, and knew that sick babies specifically came from the Texas breeder she drove to pick up babies from and babies died from those diseases. They weren't taken to the vet most times these issues occurred. Susanne instead gave them vinegar water or medications she had been prescribed for previously ill birds, at her discretion. Susanne is not a licensed veterinarian and therefore does not have authority to diagnose or independently treat medical conditions without veterinary oversight. Babies died at her home, at the store and after they were sent home with customers (Susanne deciding when she thought they were "better"), during the timeframes tracked in the documentation below and beyond.
The photos below reflect what staff were able to document regarding these concerning sanitation practices, the use of medications without veterinary guidance, and the condition of babies who were reportedly sick and/or died without receiving veterinary care.
These examples reflect only a portion of the documented and witnessed incidents. Staff described these issues as persistent and ongoing.
